Derrick Dickey, 26, was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 31 after a patrolling police officer was advised that a man walking down Palmer Street toward Merrimack Street was carrying a gun, the Lowell Police Department said.
Dickey was found, based on the description given by the witness, inside a building on Merrimack Street. He dashed away on foot but police caught him and soon found a gun in a location Dickey reached for while running away down an alley.
Dickey was charged with carrying a firearm while loaded, carrying a large capacity weapon/feeding device, recieving stolen property, possession of a class B drug with intention to distribute, and disorderly conduct, along with other charges.
